Looking for employment?

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Did you know that your state has an Employment Department? If you go to this site you can find information about IMatch skills, the labor market, a list of upcoming job fairs, etc. Call the employment department in your state and ask them if they are offering any special employment programs. Check out this site and learn about how your state can help you.

In Oregon:  www.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/index.shtml

In Washington:    www.access.wa.gov/employment/index.aspx

2. Check out your local and state news paper job listings. Many newspapers now offer their pages on-line.

3. Search for jobs on Craig’s List. It is very popular for companies and agencies to list their jobs on this site now. www.craigslist.com

4. Network: Tell your friends, family and acquaintances that you are looking for a job.

5. If you know of a place that you would like to work and it makes sense, ask the manager if you can volunteer for them. This can give employers a taste of your work ethic and show them that you are serious about working for their company.

6. If your family is receiving TANF state assistance and you are work ready, you may be eligible to participate in a JOBS program. Career specialists will be available to you to help you with your resume, interview skills and search. Talk to your TANF case manager about getting hooked up with this program.
